Oftentimes, one of the biggest struggles of a mission trip is having to leave the people you've formed relationships with. The Hendrich family experienced the heartbreak of leaving behind an orphan named Maria who they met during a mission trip to Moldova. When the Hendrichs first met Maria, the 17-year-old orphan was sitting alone with her head down as if she was sad.
The Hendrichs soon discovered that Maria hid her face because of vision issues she suffered from. Due to malnourishment as a child, Maria contracted a severe eye disease that caused her to lose sight in one of her eyes. Living as an orphan in Moldova offered Maria little opportunity to receive the help she needed with her vision.
After the Hendrichs' mission trip to Moldova they decided they wanted to assist Maria with her eyesight and sponsor her. In an astoundingly short amount of time, the Hendrichs were able to set Maria up with an eye doctor in the U.S. What ensues is a particularly beautiful story involving the miraculous hand of God and the timeless transition from darkness into light.
