Thomas Coates at 30 years old was far from the "good man" he'd once aspired to be. Coates was an unemployed heroin addict who struggled to care for his son and girlfriend. During the 2011 Christmas season, Coates' addiction had hit an all-time low.

Prompted by his girlfriend to pray for the first time in ages, Coates lifted up a cry for help to God. The very next day Coates received a surprise from a man known as Secret Santa. The moment reduced Coates to tears as he marveled over the goodness of God.
